Isn’t it simply divine? I found it in Plastique’s Etsy Shop, and now I never want to take it off. It’s made of a hard, transparent plastic and is just the right size:

Big enough to show clearly from a slight distance, but not so big it’ll be a hassle to wear. The chain is just the right length, too (I’ll show you sometime in an outfit post). It is very fragile, though – I managed to break mine in the middle of the “v” while pressing it to my body (I was stupid and thought I’d see if I could make it say “helvetica” on my skin – I blame a temporary moment of insanity). Boyfriend managed to glue it together perfectly, though, to my great relief, and now I have a (slightly embarrassing) story to go with it. The break was definitely my fault, though, and not because of bad construction. It’s just a fragile little thing, that’s all, and I’ll take proper care of it from now on.
I suppose it should be called a statement necklace, defining the wearer as a font nerd for those in the know – and confusing the people who don’t know that helvetica is simply an iconic font. The confusions here are endless, especially when considering that the Norwegian word for hell is helvete. Oh, well, I’ll brave their ignorance any day for such a beauty. At least my wonderful readers will know the true meaning behind it.
I think my sense of style has developed multiple personality disorder. Do you ever feel like this? Like you can pick an item from your closet and immediately tell which version of your fashion self would wear it? Just look at the example above. I could definitely wear every single item, and it would still look like me (although in this case it looks more like Zooey Deschanel, naturally). The problem is, I could also wear this without a second thought:
You’re probably thinking “but those aren’t that much different! It’s the same quirky attention to details, the hint of nerdiness, the unusual combinations of fabrics/patterns/colours.” And yes, they’re not very different, but still, one is definitely cute and feminine, whereas the other is tougher, simpler and leaning more towards menswear.
So far it’s not so bad. Although the two “personalities” are different, they’re still compatible, in a way. I’m sure one of them could find something to wear in the other one’s closet without compromising her personal preferences. But then – enter this girl:
What have we here? Heels, bows, draped things, red lipstick, a Mulberry Alexa? This is a very different girl – or should I say woman? I think the key word here is elegant, which I wouldn’t use to describe the two first girls. Luxurious fabrics are important, too, and something whispers “quality”. I’m sure my Parisian self wouldn’t feel good in grungy boots or orange lipstick.
K.I.S.S.: Keep It Simple Stupid. This is the persona that’s been causing me the most problems lately. It’s all about simple, graphic items with focus on the silhouette and good quality fabrics. It’s not very flashy or busy, but it’s bold. I blame blogs such as Kingdom of Style or Nubbytwiglet, who combine passion for graphic design and typography with a fantastic sense of fashion.
How, then, am I supposed to combine these four rather different people? Especially with my closet in mind – it’s like the four different personas are battling for territory, but nobody is winning, thus leaving me with four very small and completely different wardrobes. How can I bring peace to my wardrobe without having to kill someone? (There are enough skeletons in my closet as it is.)

New things, from left: Leaf-belt from H&M, chain necklace from BikBok, “Bella’s Choice” nail polish from H&M, “Mint Apple Candy” nail polish from Essie (bought here), and a pale green sweater from H&M. This is definitely my green phase.

It’s here, it’s here! In my eBay-post a few days ago I mentioned I’d ordered a petticoat, and here it is, in all its mint green tulle-ness. Fantastic, isn’t it? I’m so glad I decided to buy it – if I’d found a skirt like this on H&M for 270,- NOK I wouldn’t have hesitated for a minute, and this is even better as nobody I know has got one like it.

The bottom is deliciously full, and you should see how it moves (you know I have a weakness for clothes that move beautifully). The colour is gorgeous, too. I decided to get this mint green because it would be a bit more special than a plain old white or black, and I’m very happy with it.

As it is meant to go underneath a normal skirt or dress, the top part is rather transparent (this is just beneath the waistband). Because of this I’ll have to wear some sort of slip underneath it if I don’t want to put another skirt on top – I have a secret plan to ask Cindy help me figure out something clever when I see her next week. The only negative about the skirt itself was this big tag that had been sewn to the inside of the skirt, as it was clearly visible (which wouldn’t be a problem if I was going to use it as intended, but I quite like this underwear-as-outerwear-thing that’s going on now). I had to tear a short part of the seam to remove the tag, but it doesn’t show unless you know where to look.
If anybody else fell in love right now, I suggest you head over to this shop on eBay to have a look at what they’ve got. The one I bought can be found here, and I just now realized that it doesn’t look exactly like the one in the product picture, which is a bit strange. I still recommend this seller, though, as they replied to my questions about the shipping cost the same day, and the shipping was very fast (nine days). You might want to contact them if you’re very particular about which petticoat you’ll get – I have to confess anything mint green and poofy would make me satisfied
