Fun day at Makeup Mekka
by Maria

Today was great! Makeup Mekka has this great offer the whole summer, where you get to attend any of their makeup courses for free if you’re a fan of them on Facebook (you can even bring a friend for free, too). I’d signed up for their basic course, which takes you though everything: foundation, eye makeup, brows, cheeks and lips. A makeup artist demonstrated every step on another makeup artist, and we then got to borrow brushes and all sorts of products to practice each step. The makeup artists were lovely, patient and talented, and I got lots of new tips. Some of the girls attending the course were complete newbies when it comes to makeup (their words, not mine!), so you can definitely attend even if you’ve never so much as held a makeup brush before.
The most fun thing was probably to get to play with all the products, and test everything on yourself. I got to try on proper liquid foundation for the very first time, and I actually really liked it! It went right on my to-buy-when-I’m-no-longer-skint-list. Also, I’ve always found eye shadow tricky. Creating the right shape has been something of a mystery to me, but today, thanks to the tips from the makeup artists (plus some tricks I learnt from makeup artists in my class at Imageakademiet), I completely nailed it! One of the instructors of the course even complimented me on my work, and I felt as proud as a four year old.

As an added bonus, they had a whole bunch of makeup palettes (everything from eye shadows to lipsticks to blushes), that only cost 99,- NOK for us who attended the course. Now, I might be skint, but I still know there are some things I will need if I am to work as a stylist/fashion consultant. This palette has everything I need to demonstrate a whole lot of things (my friends always seem particularly curious about contouring and highlighting), and there is a lot of each product (they’re about 6,5 cm across). I can’t wait to play with it!
I didn’t bring my camera to the course, but I’ll be going back for a 45 minute lesson in smokey eyes (also free) with Maja next Friday, and I’ll make sure to take lots of pictures then! As for today, I simply walked homewards feeling like a gorgeous movie star, ate the most delicious dinner ever (grillspyd at Café Sara) alone while watching people on the street, then home for dessert:

I visited beautiful Ingvild (plus her husband and her baby girl) yesterday, and she’d made the most delicious cupcakes. I got three (!) home with me when I left, so I can now indulge in a sugar coma any time I want. Lucky me!
Oh, and by the way: I’m not paid to write any of this, nor have I received freebies or any sort of bribe. I simply wanted to share a great tip with you – it’s such a wonderful opportunity for anyone who feels insecure about applying makeup. The lessons are fun and very thorough, the makeup artists know their trade, and it’s completely free as long as you like Makeup Mekka on Facebook.
That sounds like so much fun! Makes me wish I was in the area… Oh, you look stunning by the way!:)
It was wonderful! I’ve never attended a makeup class before, but I thoroughly enjoyed it
And thank you! Doing these photoshoots all alone feels a bit odd, but people seemed so interested in outfit photos, so I decided to make the effort more often.
Wowza! You look stunning! I can’t wait to attend the smokey eyes class, eye shadow is one of those things that I sturggle with as well, and especially smokey eyes – I just end up looking dirty!
We’re going to have the best time, darling! <3
Ooh, by the way, I really do need that pallette that you bought! I hope I’ll be able to buy it from them for the same price, I’ll be all over it!
Ack! Now you’re making me want to take a trip across the Atlantic for a makeup tutorial! Seriously, the only eyeshadow I can apply are the little cases that come with brushes and instructions(aka paint-by-numbers for your face). Smokey eyes are such a mystery; rather than looking polished, I look like I got in a fight:(. Such a lucky girl you are. And you shouldn’t worry about sounding like you’ve been paid to advertise: there’s NOTHING wrong with enjoying yourself and letting us dear readers know why and how.
Also, you look gorgeous! Kind of like a James Bond girl, only much classier.
*laughs* That’s quite a long journey just for a makeup class – you would at least have to schedule in spending some time with me as well, I think! Eyeshadow seems to be tricky for most girls, at least judging by every girl I know at the girls attending yesterday’s class. Perhaps I should try to do a tutorial of some sort? The question is: a picture tutorial or a video version?
I decided to add the disclaimer because there has been so much talk here in Norway about bloggers being bought, so I just wanted to make sure everybody knows that my opinions cannot be bought, ever. And I’ve always wanted to be a Bond Girl, actually! You really do give wonderful compliments
Katie Holmes!
Haha! Yeah, I see what you mean
