My wardrobe staples
by Maria

Maja suggested I make a post where I show you my wardrobe staples, and I immediately loved the idea. Fashion books and magazines very often suggest items you Definitely Ought to Have, and the list always includes jeans, black pants, basic t-shirts, a blazer, the LBD (little black dress)… the list goes on. Still, I’ve always found that many of those items don’t work for me and my style. I think your wardrobe staples should be items that instantly make you feel great, well-dressed and like yourself – and if I wore black pants and a blazer, I would feel like I was wearing a costume. So, without further ado, here are the items I cannot live without.

I know it’s cheesy ending blog posts with a question simply to encourage comments, but I really do want to know:
What are YOUR wardrobe staples?
Another great post! Thanks to Maja for requesting it.
My own wardrobe staples are:
- a flowy dress that hugs my waist in almost any colour EXCEPT black. In a pattern is okay, but I personally hate wearing large amounts of black. I can actually count on one hand how many articles of black clothes I own and half of them were for jobs.
- a cardigan, either waist length or long. They are soft, warm and a very easy way to layer when you’re lazy or in a rush.
- anything with a flower print. I own floral scarves, dresses, tops, skirts, shorts and ever hair pins; it’s like floral is my black. As my good male friend told me not too long ago: “Your clothes SHOULD make you look like a grandmother, but for some reason they don’t.”
- high-waisted blue skinny jeans in a long size. I’m too tall for regular sizes so any pants that don’t have a longer inseam make me look like I’m either expecting a flood or am twelve years old again.
- soft cotton t-shirts in any length, grey. I don’t know what it is about grey clothes that makes them softer than other colours, but that’s been my experience.
- a scarf. Essential. Anyday I can get away with wearing a cardigan-and-scarf combo rather tham a coat is a good one.
- brown leather waist belt. Perfect both over dresses or long shapeless sweaters.
- red converse. Like a dress or skirt makes me twirl, these shoes make me skip. No I don’t know why.
- my smile
Sorry I got a little carried away there. Have a beautiful day!
I absolutely love that comment about how your clothes “SHOULD make you look like a grandmother, but for some reason they don’t”! And how could I forget to add my smile to my own list? You’re very right, it’s definitely a wardrobe must-have
Haha, you know you’re going to see a lot of black in my reply, right?
- Soft T-shirts in black, grey and white. I go to H&M for the tight ones and Selected for the loose ones.
- LBD. (Yeah, the LBD, shoot me!)
- Black jeans. Boot cut or skinny, doesn’t matter as long as there’s a 36″ inseam.
- Black and white converse.
- Ballerina flats. Black leather.
- Colorful skirts, full or a-line, never tight. They make me look more va-va-voom-y.
- Breton stripes. BRETON STRIPES!
- Small, inconspicuous diamond earrings. I’m more of a necklace kind of girl.
- Pashminas in every color. I hoard them.
- A satchel-style handbag to carry all my things. I am currently lugging around my black Alexa <3
- Oh and of course, the black trench coat/leather jacket.
It's funny – if I had these things, I really could go without the rest of my clothes for a long long time. I'd need some accessories of course, but still. I think I should save this list for times when I don't know what to pack
Your LBD is so freakin’ gorgeous it would be a sin not to put it on your list. I’m just jealous because I haven’t found MY perfect LBD. As for that not-needing-anything-else-really, I noticed that too about my own list. We’ll remind each other of this when one of us is going through a packing crisis, right?
Interessant post!
